Sergio Perez’s start to life back in Formula 1 with Cadillac has reportedly made him a target for multiple teams for 2027 and beyond, with RacingNews365 linking Williams, Aston Martin and Alpine to the Mexican driver.
The renewed interest has grown in Barcelona, where RacingNews365 said paddock sources pointed to Perez’s consistency and his clear edge over team-mate Valtteri Bottas as reasons he is back on the radar. That has happened even though Cadillac is running near the back in its debut season and Perez has not finished higher than 14th through the first seven rounds.
That contrast is what has changed Perez’s position in the market. After a forced year away, the 36-year-old has returned in one of the slowest cars on the grid and rebuilt his standing through performance rather than results alone.
Perez arrived at Cadillac after a difficult end to his Red Bull spell in 2024, when he scored only 44 points across the final 17 races. In comments to select media including RacingNews365, he said his current form has confirmed his level had not disappeared.
“Well, obviously, when you look at my last six months at Red Bull, you wouldn't think that I'm one of the best out there,” Perez said. “But when you understand the circumstances I was in at that point, and the people that understand performance at the end of the day, when you see the level of performance that I'm putting in with my team, you realise that I'm one of the best out there.”
Williams is one of the teams reportedly watching the situation, with RacingNews365 saying Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon would both like to leave Grove for a better opportunity after a difficult start to the season. Aston Martin has also been linked because of uncertainty around Fernando Alonso’s future, while Alpine is described as another possible destination if it cannot land Alonso.
For Perez, though, the immediate issue is still Cadillac’s development curve. The team’s next major upgrade is due at the Austrian Grand Prix, but he made clear in Barcelona that he does not expect it to solve everything at once.
“No, that will not solve it,” Perez said. “We will improve it though, but I think we're looking forward to, hopefully Silverstone will be the place that we will solve it.”
