Pirelli extends F1 sole-supplier deal to 2028

Pirelli will remain Formula 1’s exclusive tyre supplier through the end of 2028 after the FIA, in agreement with Formula 1 and the Italian manufacturer, exercised the one-year option in the current deal.

That locks in tyre continuity as F1 heads toward its major 2026 regulation reset. The option extends the contract agreed in 2023, which covered the 2025 to 2027 seasons, and means Pirelli’s current run as the championship’s sole supplier will stretch from 2011 to 18 seasons by the end of 2028.

The extension also keeps Pirelli in place across Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy through 2028, giving the FIA and Formula 1 a stable supply structure across the single-seater ladder at the point the top category enters a new technical era.

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the agreement “provides stability for the championship” through 2028 and reflects “the strong collaboration between the FIA, Formula One Group and Pirelli.” He added that the partnership would continue to support “exciting racing for competitors, teams and fans around the world.”

Pirelli’s presence in Formula 1 goes back much further than its sole-supplier era. The company was on the grid in the championship’s inaugural 1950 season before replacing Bridgestone as exclusive supplier in 2011.

Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 president and CEO, said F1 had relied on Pirelli’s “technical brilliance and focus on performance, innovation, and sustainability for many years,” adding that as the series continues to push the limits of its technical regulations, Pirelli’s commitment to quality gives teams confidence they are working with some of the most advanced tyres in the world.

Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli executive vice chairman, said the company passed the milestone of 500 Grands Prix last year and called Formula 1 “the best laboratory” for innovation, testing cutting-edge technical solutions and improving research and development processes for future road tyres.

For F1, the immediate significance is continuity at a key technical area just before the 2026 rules overhaul, with the championship choosing a known supplier and an established working relationship rather than introducing a tyre change at the same time as a major car reset.
