Audi targets Spa repeat after Silverstone breakthrough

Audi Revolut F1 Team heads to this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix trying to turn its clearest midfield progress of the season into another points finish after breaking through at Silverstone with its first score since the opener.

That eighth-place result in Britain mattered not just for the four points, but because it reinforced the team’s recent rise toward the front of the midfield. Allan McNish, Audi Revolut F1 Team Racing Director, said Silverstone was “another positive step forward for our team” after it had been “consistently operating at or near the front of the midfield battle,” with getting “back in the points” a “deserved reward.”

The result also came with a frustration that sharpened the team’s view of Spa as an immediate chance to do more. Nico Hülkenberg retired at Silverstone with a gearbox problem while still in contention for points, something he called “a tough one to take,” especially because the car had been in a position to fight before he had to stop.

That retirement has not changed Hülkenberg’s view of the bigger picture. He said “our pace has really been heading in the right direction over the last few races” and that the team has been “consistently fighting towards the front of the midfield.” For Spa, the target is straightforward: “If we can put together a clean weekend, we’ll give ourselves the best chance to come home with a solid result.”

McNish said the wider trend across recent rounds is what matters most now. He described the last few events as evidence that the team has been “moving in the right direction,” but said the next challenge is to “keep delivering at that level consistently” at Spa-Francorchamps, a circuit that presents “a different challenge for our cars compared to Silverstone.”

Gabriel Bortoleto’s points finish at Silverstone added another sign that Audi’s progress is starting to convert into results. Bortoleto called it “a great result for the team” and “a nice reward,” adding that it serves as a “motivation boost” before the final back-to-back ahead of the summer break. With what he described as “moderate progress over the last few races,” Audi arrives in Belgium trying to prove Silverstone was not an isolated result but the start of a more consistent points fight.
