F1 brings 22 LEGO minicars to Silverstone parade

All 22 Formula 1 drivers will each get their own fully drivable LEGO minicar for the British Grand Prix drivers’ parade at Silverstone this weekend, expanding the concept that became one of the most talked-about moments of last year’s Miami event.

Instead of the 10 life-sized LEGO cars used in Miami, where team-mates shared a car and the lap descended into a chaotic contest that left several builds damaged, Silverstone’s version gives every driver a car of his own. Each minicar is made from around 28,000 LEGO bricks, weighs about 280kg including 65kg of LEGO bricks, and can reach up to 25mph.

The scale of the project is still significant despite the smaller size of the cars. LEGO said the 22 vehicles were assembled at its factory in the Czech Republic by a team of 20 designers, engineers and builders, who spent more than 6,400 hours creating them.

Julia Goldin, Chief Product & Marketing Officer of the LEGO Group, said the new format was shaped by the reaction to Miami. “We always listen to our fans, and it was clear from the 2025 Miami Grand Prix Drivers' Parade that both fans and drivers wanted more,” Goldin said. “We’re back with a 2.0 version in a brand-new format, bringing even more fun and excitement to the parade.”

Formula 1 sees the Silverstone version as a bigger follow-up to a crossover that resonated well beyond the usual pre-race routine. Emily Prazer, Formula 1’s chief commercial officer, called the Miami edition “one of the most memorable and talked-about moments of the season,” adding: “This year, we’re building on that moment to create an incredible spectacle for fans attending the British Grand Prix and those watching globally.”

By moving from shared cars to a full 22-car field, Formula 1 and LEGO are turning a one-off viral success into a larger showcase at one of the championship’s biggest races, with every driver now directly part of the spectacle.
