Former Williams Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant has announced his engagement to long-time partner Riley Whittall, sharing the news in a joint Instagram post from Laguna Beach captioned: “forever with my best friend.”
Sargeant, 25, posted images of the proposal on Friday from the Montage Laguna Beach resort in California, where the couple appeared at an outdoor altar framed by elaborate floral arrangements before taking photos on the beach. It marked a rare public glimpse into a relationship the pair have largely kept out of the spotlight.
The announcement quickly drew attention well beyond Sargeant’s own following. At the time of writing, the post had received more than 149,000 likes, with congratulations arriving from figures in the Formula 1 paddock including Oscar Piastri and Alex Albon.
For Sargeant, the post landed as a personal milestone after a difficult spell in Formula 1. He raced 36 times for Williams across the 2023 and 2024 seasons and scored a single point, becoming the first American driver in 30 years to finish in the points in F1 when he took 10th at the 2023 United States Grand Prix.
That result proved to be the high point of his time with the Grove team. Sargeant’s 2024 season was affected by poor form and a series of big crashes, and Williams replaced him partway through the year with Franco Colapinto for the rest of the campaign.
His career has since moved in a different direction. Late in 2025, Sargeant switched into endurance racing with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports for the final LMP2 rounds of the IMSA SportsCar Championship, beginning a transition away from the single-seater path that had defined his rise.
He is now competing in the World Endurance Championship’s LMGT3 class with Proton Competition, and the longer-term picture is even more significant. Sargeant has already been confirmed as a factory driver for Ford Racing’s upcoming Hypercar programme, which will take the manufacturer back to the top class of the WEC in 2027.
